THE ACADEMY - Program Overview
The Miami International Music Academy (MIMA) Jr. Academy (formerly known as The Academy), is an intense, highly individualized institution for piano that offers a thorough and comprehensive program of music instruction for gifted young pianists ages 8-14, who want to be inspired, challenged and encouraged in their aim to make the very best of their musical talents.
The Jr. Academy accepts 14 students selected from a performance audition, heard by the faculty. Acceptance is based on artistic and technical merit, as well as the number of available openings in the division. The students have the opportunity to play masterclasses for a distinguished artist-faculty and guest-artists who have included Kemal Gekic, Ivan Davis, Tian Ying, Roberta Rust, Margarita Shevchenko, among others.
In this FREE program, the students will play for regular masterclasses and performance class opportunities. They receive guidance in every aspect of their early musical life. In addition, they study theory, ear training, keyboard literature, and music history classes. Thanks to the collaboration with Steinway Piano Gallery, the students are fortunate to play and work on the finest pianos ever made by Steinway & Sons.
Generous funding and private sponsors have made the school's tuition entirely free.
